Disproportionality refers to the overrepresentation or underrepresentation of a minority group within special education programs and services. The disproportionate representation of minority students in special education has been an ongoing and significant matter in education for decades. More and more minority children are being identified as disabled or having an intellectual disability or learning disability. However, in most cases the children are being misdiagnosed and consequently, are being discriminated and penalized in a variety of ways. Some of the leading causes of disproportionate identification are incorrect evaluations, poor assessment practices, and lack of instruction and assistance for minority students. So, is it the teacher and administrato r s right to poorly assess these students when these factors are not consideration? One of the leading causes of disproportionate identification in special education is the school and teachers themselves. Minority students are more likely to attend urban, inner city schools where many of the teachers are not as experienced when dealing with racially and ethnically diverse classrooms (Donovan Cross, 2002). Thus, these low-income schools are not going to offer advanced classes or top-notch special education programs or services for students. Referral processes, assessment protocols, and programs for students with special needs are likely to be more advanced in suburban schools. In addition, proper funding is always an issue in education; therefore, many schools cannot afford to hire special education teachers or teacher aides to provide additional help and assistance for minority students. Consequently, these minority students are thrown into special education classes and left on the ir own, to develop better language skills and higher academic achievement. The Death Penalty The Death Penalty seems to haunt the US mindset. While more countries are dropping the procedure as cruel the US still holds on. Eighty percent of Americans are still for the Death Penalty, citing revenge as the main reason, which is why families are allowed to watch the execution . Organizations like Amnesty International condemn the US regularly, as well as most Democratic nations. What I want to address is why the dialogue is ineffective. The proponents of the Death Penalty make arguments aimed at peoples deepest emotional fears. When found by the police they held an elderly couple hostage on March 24, but eventually Gray gave up, while Davis committed suicide . Proponents then draw on peoples fears by telling them that jailbreaks are frequent for murderers and that states dont report escapes nationally and categorize them differently (Murdock). The main force of this argument is not based on the fact that murderers are escaping punishment, but the cases brought up all involve civilian hostages and horrifying encounters between people and the murderers. The death penalty proponents are playing with peoples fear. They want people to see murderers escaping from jail and looking for cars, guns, and hostages. It is the fear of murderers killing even after they are sentenced to life that proponents want to latch onto. The only way to keep people safe, within this mindset, is to kill the murderer swiftly before they have a chance to escape and murder again. Prison escapes are fairly rare. Energy is easy to monitor, control and reduce. Hotels can calculate their carbon footprint using the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HMCI) tool (Carbon calculation, 2014). Green hotels are properties that can be sustainable environmentally, with the management bei ng willing to put measures in place that save on water, energy, and reduce waste accrued form solid matter as it saves money to protect the earth (Green Hotels Association, n.d). Malaica Hotel understands that bold steps in energy conservation have to be taken in order for the hotel to rise above its competition and stay relevant in the industry. One of its goals is to decarbonise hotel operations and use energy saving measures. It is a 4-star hotel that has many facilities and amenities, all using a lot of energy. The hotel has 100 rooms, 3 restaurants and kitchens, 1 laundry outlet that is attached to the housekeeping department, 2 swimming pools, a spa, gym and quad biking within its large parcel of land. The hotel plans to increase its room capacity by 50% either by adding a storey to existing structures, or by building on the acreage available. It plans to increase its room capacity in line with energy saving standards. As the Project Manager of the hotel, I have been tasked with reviewing its carbonizing strategy by 2020. I will explain Malaica Hotels property CO2 emissions and how we will achieve energy efficiency in pursuit of this goal. The reduction of the hotels energy costs will create significant increases in revenue because energy prices and consumption rates are high at the moment. Malaica Hotel is a large business, with a huge consumption of energy. The facilities are in different buildings, leading to a less energy efficient mode of energy conservation. If the facilities had been constructed in one building, the cost of energy would have been lower. The local energy policies have affected the price of energy and the CO2 emissions, leading to high prices and consumption. The growth in hotel occupancy and new standards of living and consumption has led to an increase in our energy consumption. More facilities and services have been added over the years, with more intensive use of appliances and operating equipment. There are over 1,000 light fixtures in the hotel and they all consume a lot of electricity. Malaica Hotel consumes a lot of energy through temperature regulation for heating, hot water and air conditioning. It can reduce this overuse by setting temperature levels that are moderate inside the properties to avoid the extremes of temperatures being either too hot or too cold. Thermostats should be installed in the rooms to regulate the heating and water temperatures. The air conditioning systems will be renovated to include thermostats that are cooled down when no guests are using the facilities. Many of the rooms in the hotel have light bulbs that are high-consumption. We will install low-consumption bulbs and energy saving mini bars and TVs. Motion sensors installed in the guest rooms will automatically turn lights on or off when a person walks into a room or leaves it, and key cards will also be used for the rooms to stop usage when rooms are vacant. Our kitchen cookers use an average of 0.45 kg CO2 per kWh, therefore energy efficient stoves should be installed. The refrige ration systems are vast in the hotel due to the many activities undertaken that create a demand for cold drinks. Their use should be minimized and energy rated in order to reduce the CO2 emissions (Gill et al., 2012). Appliances in the kitchen should be changed to the energy-efficient kind and the kitchen grease generated should be turned into bio-dynamic fuel. The laundry department generates high CO2 emissions, so towels and linens should be reused, if guests allow it, with energy efficient equipment being used to clean all laundry. In our offices, electronic appliances will be used minimally and computers will be switched of when not in use. Renewable energy technology produces energy received from nature like the sun and wind, resulting in less dependence on fossil fuels (Yalcintas Kaya, 2009). Solar panels will be installed in all of Malaica Hotels facilities, especially for water heating, in order to reduce on electricity consumption. The panels will be used continuously and exclusively during the warm seasons of the year. The hotel staff should be trained on energy saving measures, and guests awareness on the same issue is to be raised. Huge savings can be realized by asking guests who are staying for more than one night to reuse their towels and bedding. This will save energy for the hotel, water and staff time. However, the program of reuse, if it is to be successful, must be followed through. The hotel is paying almost 40% of the energy bill towards reheating water. Its steam and hot water needs are huge, and the laundry system should provide an opportunity to reduce energy costs. Washing machines should be loaded to the nominal capacity. In the plans to build 50 more guest rooms, Malaica Hotel will use green energy. The new rooms will adopt new cost saving methods of heating and lighting. The building design technique used will maximize on the available sunlight and incorporate natural ventilation to reduce on the energy use. The building will have lots of shade for the periods when the temperature is too high. All of the above are goals that Malaica Hotel plans to implement by 2020, to help in the reduction of our carbon footprint, save energy and make more profits due to a reduction in expenditures (Schmidt, Schneider Hoffmann, 2012). Waste is a useful resource that can be used to reduce energy requirements. Malaica Hotel can use it to generate energy, thereby reducing its carbon emissions. Composting of waste would also reduce the hotels carbon emissions to a huge percentage. Bottled water, which is preferred by all of our guests, takes up a lot of energy in its processing and transportation. The bottles used for the water are mostly non-degradable, leading to a destruction of the environment. Therefore, Malaica Hotel should have two options. One is to ask the clients to use our tap water which is very clean and safe for consumption. The other would be for the hotel to bottle its own water with recycled bottles, in order to reduce the environmental impact. Malaica Hotel will engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in order to adopt sustainable measures that will contribute to sustainable economic development. CSRs are defined as the basic principles by which a hotel can practice sustainability (Bohdanowicz Hawkins, 2011). The initiatives instituted voluntarily by Malaica Hotel will help the hotel to practice responsible business practices and improve on service performance by the use of standardized responsible business policies. The measures used will also increase the efficiency of the services offered in all the facilities. The hotel clients will also have a better experience, if they cooperate, towards lessening the carbon footprint of the hotel as they enjoy the services provided. The dependence by many organizations on fossil fuels needs to be reduced; therefore an alternative energy supply is critical in shifting the energy supply to more sustainable options. Energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies should be used to reduce the carbon footprints of hotels (Cabrini, 2009). There are some experts who have accused hotels of green washing (Abraham, 2009). There has been a rise in the number of hotels that are using green energy but some of them are accused of using it only as a marketing ploy to attract customers without providing the actual green measurements. Yet, there are hotels that actually implement the green measures to reduce costs and for their social responsibility (Abraham, 2009). Energy conservation saves costs, and studies indicate that 20% energy savings can be instituted by adding energy conservation and energy-efficiency measures in hotels (Bohdanowisz Hawkins, 2011; Kok, McGraw, Quigley, 2011; Simpson et al., 2008). There has been an existing gap between the motivations for companies to adopt sustainable energy measures, and the actual use of these measures. These motivations have been studied with perspectives on what prevents hotel managers from adopting sustainable measures (Graci, 2008). Some managers avoid implementing the measures because they see them as being an unnecessary expenditure, while others see the measures as being too expensive to implement. Many prioritize cost-effective measures with the aim of bringing recognition to their efforts at work. Harley Davidson International Management Essay I.Summary of the case study Harley-Davidson rockers idolSo, this case study is about Harley-Davidson, a brand of motorcycles and more precisely about its development since his foundation in 1903 by 21-year-old William S. Harley and 20-year-old Arthur Davidson. So, in 2003, it was the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Harley-Davidson. And, in order to commemorate it, fans of this famous brand rode until Milwaukee to see the parade of 10 000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Through this celebration, we can see how recognized this brand is for the owners, or should I say fans. Indeed, this case also shows how the strategy and the marketing of Harley-Davidson are good; because Harley has fans and they will do all they can for their bikes and their brand. For its 100th year, Harley Planned for selling 290 000 bikes. And in 2002, the firm reported a gross profit of US$ 1.4 billion on US$ 4 billion sales. But, its history has never been so easy. Indeed, after 50 years of growth destroying the local competition in the US, Harley has known almost 20 years of hard competition in his market, and especially with Honda. And seeing a deterioration of its market share (only 30%), Harley has decided to abandon overseas markets. 1969 saw Harley-Davidson merge with the American Machine and Foundry Company (AMF). The merger would last until 1981, when 13 senior executives from Harley Davidson buy back the company. After the buyout is made official, the phrase The Eagle Soars Alone becomes a rallying cry. So, this merger has ensured Harley-Davidson to continue its development and its improvement, and succeeded its come back in the first line. This new team achieved this thanks to a good marketing strategy, in other words creating customer value. This new strategy has ensured to create the feeling for the owners to belong to a family, such as the Harley Owners Group. One of the key issue of the new strategy is thus to accord importance to fidelity. The most interesting point of this case is that Harley has different marketing strategy according to countries. Indeed, in some markets (US, Australia, Japan, Spain, Denmark) Harley-Davidson tries to attract new customers using advertisements, but in other markets such as the Europe, the strategy is more the usage of the promotion in specialized magazines. Another interesting point is that the Harleys market shares in Europe in very low although the Europe market represents 35% of the worldwide large motorcycle market. The main industry competitors are Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and BMW. Harley-Davidson is the market leader in the U.S. market with 46.4% market share. Their domestic position is quite secure however the rival companies are all aiming to increase their impact on the North American market. Honda remains the main competitor with a 20.2% market share in North America. Even though they trail behind Harley in the high profit market for heavy bikes, Honda sells more bikes worldwide than Harley-Davidson. Honda provides a wider selection of products ranging from super sport bikes, cruisers, scooters and motor cross bikes. The popularity of cruiser bikes is increasing and last year the registrations for heavy weight motorcycles rose by 22%, but Harleys share fell from 50.2% in 1997 to 46.4% in 2002. But, this is totally different in Europe for Harley-Davidson who has only 6.6% of market share. So, to my mind, this market is the most promising. Thats why Harley-Davidson has to focus especially its marketing in the European market in order to win market shares, and reduce the gap between its competitors. Moreover, Harley net revenue in Europe is the second behind the U.S. With only 6.6% of market share the European market is already the second net revenue. So, if Harley succeeds in increasing its market share in Europe, its net revenue could be in high growth. Then, in order to fully understand its market, and in order to compete in a more serious way its competitors, Harley-Davidson must identify the distinct segments that their competitors focus on and what distinctive product service benefits they offer. Hondas activities are forcing Harley-Davidson into a niche market. The company is known for its flexibility and is progressively introducing bigger and better bikes. The Japanese manufacturer is starting to increase its competitive pressure by applying some of the strategies implemented by Harley. Introduction When the multinational enterprises work with different accounting systems it might be possible to come with different results at the end of the year. This is the case of Siemens AG with the annual report from 2000. The German corporation ´s stock has been traded on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) and according to their report from US GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles) their net income was â‚ ¬8,860 million while on German GAAP based on the same calculations their net income was reported as â‚ ¬7,901 million. HGB is primary used for companies in Germany and US GAAP in United States. This research paper will give you an overview of the main differences between the both systems and will help you to better understand the practices used by the two important market leaders in the world. Chapter 2 2.1 Literature review 2.2 U.S. GAAP The accounting standards in United States have been first set by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). In 1939 AICPA created also the Committee on Accounting Procedure and after this in 1959 it was replaced by Accounting Principles Board. In 1984 the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) determined the accounting standards in U.S (PWC.com, 2012). The US GAAP is influenced basically by the Common Law of United states. 2.3 German GAAP Different from US GAAP is the German HGB or Handelsgesetzbuch, a commercial code established first in 1897 and replaced in 1938 conform the European standards. The German accounting system was used also in Austria since 1938 (Investopedia.com). There are many differences between the German and U.S. accounting standards and it seems quite important for the financial employees to know them, mostly when they work in a multinational company. Some of the major differences consist in value-added tax, capitalization of software costs, personnel restructuring, employee share purchase plans, deferred income including derivatives, maintenance accruals, unrealized gains on marketable securities and share offering costs. The following section will analyse this differences and will offer a better understanding of the terms used in German GAAP and U.S. GAAP. Chapter 3 3.1 General Analyses 3.2 Value-added tax In the German GAAP the value-added tax or VAT needs to be depreciated and the VAT recoveries recorded as other operating income. Under U.S. GAAP the capitalized VAT is considered a long-term receivable rather than plant and equipment or property. For that reason the depreciation and operating income are not recognized (Alexander et al. 2004). 3.3 Personnel restructuring Under U.S. GAAP, the estimated cost of employee separation are accrued in the period that the employee accepts the offer of termination while under German GAAP these costs are often financial on the basis of the Company when it announced the intention to reduce its workforce (Alexander et al. 2004). 3.4 Deferred income including derivatives According to U.S. GAAP the income of a company from a basic agreement is to be distributed over the duration of the agreement while under German GAAP this income is to be considered in accordance with the economic useful life (Alexander et al. 2004). â€Å"Under German GAAP, gains and losses resulting from the termination of interest rate swaps are recognized in the year of termination while according to U.S. GAAP, gains and losses on interest rate swaps accounted for as hedges are amortized over the remaining outstanding period of the interest rate swap or the remaining life of the hedged position, whichever is shorter† (Alexander et al. 2004). Under German GAAP, â€Å"the foreign currency forward contracts and options used to hedge against the currency risk involved with a planned acquisition† are accounted as a hedge without affecting net income â€Å"as an offset against the acquisition cost of the investment† while under U.S. GAAP may not be accounted for as a hedge (Alexander et al 2004). 3.5 Maintenance accruals The German GAAP requires that the cost of maintenance associated to the financial year and only the ones incurred within the first three months of the following year have been accrued at every end of the period while under U.S. GAAP, the cost of maintenance is considered in the periods incurred (Alexander et al. 2004). 3.6 Unrealized gains on marketable securities Under U.S. GAAP the marketable equity securities other than investments accounted for by equity method or marketable debt, are classified as either available for sale, or as trading, or held to maturity while under German GAAP they are generally carried at historical cost. â€Å"Securities classified as trading or available for sale are reported at fair value at the balance sheet data and held to maturity securities are reported at historical cost. Unrealized gains and losses on trading securities are recorded in net income while unrealized gains and losses on securities categorized as available for sale are recorded, net of income tax, in shareholders ´ equity† (Alexander et al. 2004). 3.7 Share offering cost The share offering costs are written as extraordinary expenses in the income statement according to German GAAP while under U.S. GAAP are charged against the proceeds of the offering (Alexander et al. 2004). Jà ¼rgen Kirsch, a professor of Finance at the University of Munster explain that the essential differences between German GAAP and U.S. GAAP are seen better at the capital markets and at investors. According to his paper in the financial structure of Germany the capital markets are less important than bank loans while in USA the capital markets are more important than banks. Furthermore the shareholder structure in USA is based on broad distribution of shares while in Germany the private investors are less important (Kirsch 2012). Looking at the basis for tax calculation and distributions we can see that USA has no influence on tax law and in Germany â€Å"tax dictates financial accounting† was abolished. The distribution rules are also different under German GAAP and U.S. GAAP. In Germany building of reserves and distribution constraints are controlled by law, and there are minimum distribution rules based on single accounts. However in USA there are almost no regulations to build reserves. The board determines the distribution and it is based on group accounts (Kirsch 2012). Another significant differences between HGB and US GAAP according to KPMG, one of the biggest professional service companies in the world, are the provisions. The provisions have different recognition criteria, different measurement criteria and different selected specific areas. 3.8 Provisions Recognition criteria Under German GAAP the provisions are based more on the principle of prudent accounting while under U.S. GAAP are recorded for legal/contractual obligations or constructive obligations. The German HGB allows also provisions where no third-party liability exist for example expense accruals, planned repairs or internal costs of the year-end closing. Under U.S. GAAP a liability must exist to a third party at the balance sheet date (KPMG, 2005). Different measurement The measurement criteria are also different. Under U.S. GAAP the amount of provision is based on best estimate while HGB allows greater flexibility and accruals could be substantially higher than under U.S. GAAP (KPMG, 2005). 3.9 Foreign currency translation The German GAAP requires that the financial statements must be recorded in the Euro currency and no other currencies are allowed. Under U.S. GAAP there is no specific currency underlined (KPMG, 2003). 4.0 Tax influences on the Balance sheet According to Grabowski ´s paper under the German GAAP the tax balance sheet and commercial balance sheet are closely connected to each other while under the U.S. GAAP there are no tax influences on the financial statement because the commercial balance sheet is separated from the tax balance sheet (Grabowski, 2012). Chapter 4 5.1 Conclusion This paper provided abroad understanding of the key differences between U.S. GAAP and German GAAP and offered a better analyse of the concepts. Even though both financial systems have some differences in the structure, the basic principles do not differ so much. We can probably say that this differences are influenced by the different laws systems of the countries. Germany for example is based on civil code which has an extensive number of regulations that should be applied to as many special cases as possible and transferred to similar cases while USA is based on common law which implies a limited number of regulations. Here the rules are applied to special cases they were invented for and are decided for individual cases by jurisdiction. The History of Harlem - Cultural Epicenter of America’s Black community

Over a significant time frame, African Americans have been forced to endure numerous hardships – one of which being the negatives stigmas that unfairly generalize their people, culture and way of life. Therese stereotypes of a whole nationality label Blacks as, â€Å"superstitious, lazy, ignorant, dirty, unreliable, (and even) criminal,† (â€Å"Stereotypes†). Such generalizations are products of the public’s perception, which has been diluted by rooted historic and current prejudice as well as the media’s conveyance of a well-known African American cultural center: Harlem. Despite negative connotations associated with it, Harlem stands as a community that strives to flourish and maintain its strong cultural status. George Canada, the founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone, states, â€Å"People think kids are all violent, and they’re all out fighting and shooting. Most of our children want to grow up in a peaceful community where they c an live their lives and become successful adults† (â€Å"Your City†). Because this area has been subject to consistent historic change, its past is rocky, which accurately mirrors the struggle of the African American people. In order to achieve a better understanding of both the African American community and its cultural hub, it is essential to know the area’s unique cultural history. From Renaissance to riots; drugs wars, violence and poverty, Harlem’s history as the cultural epicenter of America’s Black community may shed some light on the evolution of its current culture, people and stereotypes. Convocation: Better and Dr. Wilson

Convocation 2012 Response Paper Quam Onigbanjo As students poured inside of the auditorium, and the Morgan State alumni and faculty made their entrance, the first convocation of the 2012 school year began. The air was filled with peaceful music from the choir, as well as buzz of noise from the crowd. The aisles and staircases were packed with students trying to get seated near their friends. After most of the students were situated and the choir stopped singing, Dr. David Wilson began his introductory speech. Dr.Wilson began with greeting the new and or returning students and faculty. Then, Wilson starts to get into the depth of his speech by talking about how Morgan can, and is expanding into a generally better place. Wilson speaks of the newly built CBETS Building and about plans to build the Earl G. Graves business building. Wilson also talks about starting to improve the Jenkins building and softball fields. As Dr. Wilson spoke about the physical improvements that are planned for the campus, an aura of excitement came about the crowd.The part that seemed to excite the crowd the most was the announcement of the demolition of Montebello and the Soper library in order to create a new building that would take over Montebello’s duties. A general sense of pride filled the auditorium. The idea that Morgan was on its way to obtaining a better campus pleased everyone. As, a small HBCU in the middle of Baltimore city, Morgan’s campus does not compare to that of UMD College Park, which many students at Morgan would prefer to go to.However, it is clear that as Morgan is expanding into an even more beautiful campus, students and staff will be more confident in their school and will be encouraged to represent Morgan with some pride. As, the president continued his speech, the auditorium remained quiet with all eyes focused on him. Dr. Wilson then started talking about respect and conduct. This topic was guareanteed to come up as Morgan has been in the news is the past weeks due to a shooting in the student center. Dr.Wilson made a general message that was meant for everyone when he says to â€Å"respect yourself with the highest dignity and don’t accept things that go against who you are†, implying that you should have respect for yourself and one another in order to create a better environment for everyone. Due to the events in the past few weeks, Morgan’s name has been in the news for very bad reasons. These reasons were due to students at Morgan involved in murder and cannibalism, as well as stabbings and shootings.Although these events show a negative image to the outside world about Morgan State University, it is understood that Morgan is a school that is advancing and on its way to being a prestigious college. As a closing remark, Dr. Wilson wanted his staff and students to know that everyone should conduct themselves in the highest manner. This is to ensure that unfortunate events such as the ones that have occurred in the recent past do not occur again and that we as a university can restore our name contrary to what media portrays us.He closes his speech with encouraging his audience to find a deep respect for knowledge, learning, and education, as these should be the primary goals of any institution. After the choir sang the Alma Matter, a sense of inspiration seemed to have spread through the room as people were exiting the auditorium. The President has sent his message for the 2012 school year, which was to make Morgan a better place together.

The United States versus United Nations stability in Kenya. After trying for all this long without a desirable result, America decided to send former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice again with Kofi Annan to go and lead the mediation once more between the Kenyan leaders. After the negation of these two leaders sent by America, there was a better change whereby Kenyan leaders come to an agreement. From that time America is still looking into the Kenyan Politics and is even trying to make sure that justice prevails even after the past post-elections crisis. Another aspect that we have seen America participate directly is its intervention in South Korea. South Korea has had a plan to make nuclear bombs and other weapons of mass destruction. America is against inhuman activities and other action that may cost human life. Therefore, it forced itself into this issue. America has made its best to advice South Korea against such dangerous weapons that may cost the world. There have been a great problem between south and North Korea, until now this problem still exists but its minor, therefore North Korea have been trying to come up with sophisticated weapons against south Korea. America has been sensitive about this and it is still keeping an eye on what is happening in North Korea. America is discouraging North Korea of this activity until now. There are many activities, which we have seen America involving in even without the aid of united nation Just to make sure that there is peace and stability among the nations. United States of America has participated greatly in the issues to do with human rights. When you recall the history in Iraq, you can understand what kind of a person Saddam Hussein was. Saddam Hussein was a dictator and a terrorist as well. Many people in Iraq were unsatisfied with his leadership. The United States of America was unpleased with the massive destruction of people under Husseins rule and fought towards his downfall. At last, America decided upon the hanging of Saddam. This was a decision by America in order to provide peace and stability in Iraq. Actually, in the United Nations America has played a big role to ensure that peace prevails in many places of the world. We have witnessed America sending out its army to solve problems in many nations. America participates both direct and indirectly to ensure there is stability and peace among the nations. Veto power Veto power is the ability of a certain country to reject legislation or other government measures. With this definition, we build understanding on what the United States of America is. In the United Nations, America some times makes actions without consulting or goes against this. One of these actions is the Hanging of Saddam. According to the Roman Catholic Saddam was not supposed to receive a death penalty because it is against humanity and God is the only Judge over life (Leyden, par 2). The United Nations had not come to an agreement of hanging Saddam. America on seeing the harm that Saddam had done would not agree with any other decision other than hanging Saddam. America went ahead to hung Saddam without prior approval from the United Nations. This shows how America exercised its veto power. There are some other things that America makes personal decisions over them. During the time of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) many Europeans nations, America included were using the nuclear bombs in the world war. Afterwards America was against the use of these bombs. Other nations doubted America, thinking America was flattering them. At last, America refused to sign some of the treaties and walked out of the organization. Americas action to stop the use of nuclear was not a decision of the NATO organization. This also provides a reason of America exercising its veto power. America at times may go against agreements of the United Nations or other organization in order to save a situation. The other reasons of America going against the discussed reached rules in the United Nations are to provide quick actions to some situations that look so demanding.

The Death of Catherine the Great There is a well-known legend surrounding Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, and it involves a horse. The myth is that Catherine was crushed to death by a horse while attempting to have sex with it. Usually, the collapse of a harness or lifting mechanism is blamed. This would be bad enough, but theres a second myth thats often added when debunking the first. The second myth is that Catherine died on the toilet. But, whats the truth? The truth appears to be that Catherine died in bed of illness. There were no equines involved, and a Catherine with horse nexus was never attempted. Catherine has been slandered for several centuries. The Horse Myth Catherine the Great was Tsarina of Russia, one of the most powerful women in European history. So, how did the idea that she died while attempting an unusual practice with a horse become one of the most virulent myths in modern history, transmitted by whispers in school playgrounds across the western world? Its unfortunate that one of historys most interesting women is known to most people as a beast, but the combination of perverse rudeness and the relative foreignness of its subject makes this a perfect slander. People love hearing about sexual deviance, and they can believe it of a foreign person they dont know much about. So if Catherine didnt die while attempting sex with a horse (and just to reiterate, she absolutely, 100% didnt), how did the myth arise? Where did the fireless smoke come from? During past centuries the easiest way for people to offend and verbally attack their female enemies was sex. Marie Antoinette, the hated queen of France, was subjected to printed myths so deviant and obscene they would make spam emailers blush and certainly cant be reproduced here. Catherine the Great was always going to attract rumors about her sex life, but her sexual appetite, while modest by modern standards, meant that the rumors had to be even wilder to make up the ground. Historians believe the horse myth originated in France, among the French upper classes, soon after Catherines death, as a way to mar her legend. France and Russia were rivals, and they would continue to be on and off for a long time (particularly thanks to Napoleon), so both slated the citizens of the other. If this all seems a bit odd, consider that even in Britain in 2015, Prime Minister David Cameron was accused of an intimate act with a dead pigs head by a political enemy, which was widely reported, and which threatens to become a popular footnote to his governance. David Cameron may no longer be Prime Minister, but the pig jokes remain. It still happens today just as easily as it happened to Catherine the Great. Perhaps even easier, see below. The Toilet Myth However, in recent years another myth has emerged. Take a quick look around the web, and youll find pages debunking the idea of Catherine with the horse while stating that the great Empress of Russia died while on the toilet. Admittedly such sites are quick to point out another fact as myth, that Catherine’s bloated body was so heavy it cracked the toilet (this variation was also spread by Catherines contemporary enemies), but the toilet features prominently nonetheless. Indeed, some sources quote this from John Alexanders marvelous biography of Catherine: Sometime after nine chamberlain Zakhar Zotov, not having been summoned as anticipated, peeked in her bedroom and found nobody. In a closet adjacent, he discovered the Empress on the floor. With two comrades Zotov tried to help her up, but she barely opened her eyes once before emitting a faint groan as she exhaled and lapsed into unconsciousness from which she never recovered. If you take closet to mean water closet, another name for a toilet, the quote seems fairly conclusive. Unfortunately, this fact isnt true but the product of a desire for belittling humor. The toilet is a common enough location of death to be true, but still intrinsically humiliating, especially for a great Empress. Much the same process is behind the spreading of this myth; its just a little bit nicer and easier for the storyteller to be polite about. The truth is in the next section of Alexanders book. The Truth: Catherine may have never recovered full consciousness after her collapse, but she wasnt yet dead. Alexanders book goes on to explain (in paragraphs rarely quoted) how Catherine was laid in her bed as doctors tried to save her body and priests made rites to save her soul. Throughout she was racked with pain, her convulsing appearance causing great distress to her consorts. It was over twelve hours after Zotov found her, well past nine oclock at night, that Catherine finally died of natural causes, in bed and surrounded by friends and carers. Legacy She could have been remembered internationally for many things, but sadly most people know her for horses and toilets. In a sense, her enemies in France have won the longest game of all, because while Catherine dominated her era, the historical memory of her is tarnished, and the internet has turned the whole world into one giant school playground for rumors and hate to be spread, meaning Catherines reputation is unlikely to be corrected anytime soon. Now coming to this advertisement under analysis it is as mentioned before about a financial services company, from the renowned Toyota Group. The Advertisement claims to be able to help college students in particular with funds and finances to be able to afford a car during their rocky college years when they have no stable source of income. The question here that springs to the mind can be very colloquially put as â€Å"So what’s the catch?†.The catch is what lies in the small print at the bottom of the page which will be discussed later. The first thing of utmost importance here is whether Fowles's psychological analysis that advertisers will try to sell anything to us in a box by packing it to get around the need for rational thinking and critical reflection. The advertisement is all set in white with what seems to be a college freshman displaying all signs of frustration due to some unknown matter in the first instance. Curiosity demands that the reason for this frustration should be traced. The problem here is that in the first instance the Advertisement seems to remind us of old Advertisements for Intel computers or maybe some software. Then it states â€Å"sociology term paper due at 9 am† and then it states that the computer of what is the screaming college freshman has crashed somewhere 45 minutes before the date of submission. At this point the consumer is confused.

Moving further ahead, the Authors Guild raises the point that Google is infringing the copyright laws whereby it has gone a step ahead of its competitors like Yahoo and the like and presented the books in a scanned mode (Brumfield 2005). What the Authors Guild forgets is the fact that it is for the betterment of the readers themselves – for whom the books are written in the first place. The Authors Guild is basically opposed to the Google Print Library Project which has the basic functioning of scanning nearly all parts of a particular book which has been taken from the libraries of University of Michigan, Stanford University, Harvard University, Oxford University and the New York Public Library (Author Unknown 2005). These texts are easily searchable courtesy the Google search engine and thus the intended users (readers) can easily g o through the contents of the books on view. The aspect of advertisements on these web pages where the texts are made available through the search corridor is something that raises quite a few eye brows on the part of the Authors Guild and thus they come up with the faintest of lawsuits which asks to prohibit the searchable capacity of these books through the help and facilitation of Google. The President of the Authors Guild, Nick Taylor suggests that this perspective alone presented by Google is a clear cut violation of the copyright laws and hence the searchable capacity made available on the part of Google should be taken away as far as Google is concerned (Kuchinskas 2005). The Google authorities are rightfully pointing out the benefits that the general viewers (readers) of these books would indeed have and not only that but also the sale of these books would increase as a result, an aspect which could draw huge revenues for the authors who have penned down these books. Somehow or the other, they seem to forget this very vital aspect. As a business entity, Google extracts money and in more business like terms, the revenue from allocating space in the form of banners, buttons and hyperlinks to advertisers at rates which are not only cost effective but also aim at bulk deals (Mills 2005).
